Why this exists

I was a beast in the boardroom.
And I was breaking my family.

I was growing other people's valuations while I was atrophied inside — with no idea how to attune to my own spirit, let alone my wife's or my children's.

Twenty-five years in healthcare sales. Two companies grown to eight figures and acquired. Medical Initiative Excellence Award. The full deck. By every external measure — winning.

But I had never given myself permission not to grind. So I never gave anyone around me that permission either. I raised my kids to take on mountains — and dragged them by the hair to get there. That's not leadership. That's fear wearing ambition's clothes.

Then Covid almost killed me. And in that stillness I finally received the greatest gift I never asked for: I saw clearly what I had built — and what it had cost the people I loved most. And I started asking the only question that actually matters:

"Who is reflecting back to me the glory of who I really am?"

Twenty-five years in healthcare sales. Two eight-figure exits. A Medical Initiative Excellence Award. And a Covid near-death experience that showed him exactly what all of it had cost the people he loved most. The Maturity Project is his answer to the only question that changed everything.

William Wallace

c.1270 – 1305 · Scotland

Classically trained for the priesthood. Memorized the Psalter. Quoted the imprecatory psalms as he protected his village from those pillaging his homeland. Did not fight for a throne. Fought for the freedom of others to live as themselves. Executed at 35.

George MacDonald

1824 – 1905 · Scotland

Died broke, sick with tuberculosis, largely alone. By every scoreboard — a loss. A wounded Irish boy named C.S. Lewis found his book decades later and called it the moment that baptized his imagination. The long game of a life fully given outlasts every metric.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer

1906 – 1945 · Germany

Theologian. Could have stayed safe in America — a ticket out was arranged. He chose to go back to Germany and resist Hitler from the inside. Executed by the SS eleven days before the war ended. Wrote The Cost of Discipleship from a prison cell.

William Wilberforce

1759 – 1833 · England

Converted at 26. Spent the next 46 years driving abolition of the slave trade through Parliament. Fought for 20 years before winning. Heard that the final Slavery Abolition Act had passed through Parliament three days before he died.

Eric Liddell

1902 – 1945 · Scotland & China

Olympic gold medalist. Refused to run his best race because it fell on a Sunday — then won gold in a distance he didn't train for. Left his medals behind to serve as a missionary in China. Died in a Japanese internment camp, having given his food rations to other prisoners.

"God made me fast. And when I run, I feel His pleasure."

Maximilian Kolbe

1894 – 1941 · Poland

Franciscan priest. When a prisoner in Auschwitz was selected to be starved to death, Kolbe stepped out of the line and said: "Take me instead. He has a wife and children." He knew exactly who he was. He died singing hymns in the starvation cell.

"The most dangerous thing in the world is to stop knowing who you are."
